I myself was unfortunate to get a prolapsed disc at 21 and have had to live with it for a lot of years now.  It was originally thought to be sciatica, but after months of over the counter anti-inflammatories and chiropractor visits; The pain was actually getting worse.  MRI scans confirmed that I had a prolapsed disc and my doctor told me that I had to learn to deal with it because it was going to be like this for the rest of my life.

After spending 2 months in bed unable to stand for any length of time and not even able to tie my shoe laces.  I started to panic thinking that this was going to be my life now.  Having constant lower back pain which also radiated down my right leg and foot.

I was annoyed in the beginning because I had to give up rugby.  But after being bed ridden for so long the rugby annoyance took a back seat and I started wishing that I would be able to get a little mobility back.

I was taking daily prescribed anti-inflammatories, which I believe were the strongest available at the time.  They didn’t seem to be working, much to my annoyance, my back pain was going no where.

Surgery was fast looming but I really didn’t want to go down that route so young.  So I began doing a lot of research online to see what I could dig up to get some back pain relief.

After many hours of digging I came across a site called Lose ‘The Back Pain’.  After looking through their site I began to see that these guys seemed to know what they were talking about for back pain relief.

I was impressed by the book as it taught me to start concentrating on the reasons for my lower back pain.  Then to deal with the reason why I had back pain and not to concentrate on masking the back pain with pain-killers and drugs.

At long last I was starting to get some back pain relief after implementing the directions in the book.  So I decided to take a chance on the complete ‘Lose The Back Pain’ system.

The complete system showed me the importance of muscle imbalances and how it can greatly affect my lower back pain.  I know now that it was probably all the years training for rugby that caused my muscle imbalances.  Which pushed my spine out of its natural alignment and caused all the problems.

I started to address those problems to correct my muscle imbalances.  While also using the techniques shown to deal with the back pain to enable me to perform the exercises provide to banish my lower back pain for good.

I’m glad to say now that I haven’t had to deal with the severe lower back pain I had in the beginning.  Although I had to give up the rugby I’ve been able to regain most of my mobility back and can go to the gym regularly.  I’m stronger than I’ve ever been now which is great considering my condition.  I’ve also become quite a demon squash player now and am very happy with that.

I’ve only ever had a few relapses of lower back pain but they have been self inflicted.  Due to falling over (I had a few to many drinks for my birthday one year).

Sciatic Nerve Treatment

Sciatica is a set of symptoms rather than a diagnosis for what is irritating the root of the nerve, causing the pain.  Sciatica nerve pain is caused by a combination of pressure and inflammation on the nerve root, and treatment is centred on relieving both of these factors.  Sciatica is the name given to any sort of pain that is caused by irritation or compression of the sciatic nerve.  Sciatica causes pain, a burning sensation, numbness, or tingling radiating from the lower back and upper buttock down the back of the thigh to the back of the leg.

Back Pain

Pain management can be simple or complex, depending on the cause of the pain.  Pain and symptoms being transmitted or referred from the low back to one of the buttocks and down the back of the leg along the pathway of the sciatic nerve.  Pain also occurs on rising from a chair, particularly if sitting crossed legged, and can cause disturbed sleep.  Pain from sciatica can change: it can be shooting or burning, sharp or dull, non-stop or intermittent.

Back Pain Treatment

Treatment, if needed, depends on the cause of the problem.  The vast majority of people who experience sciatica get better with time (usually a few weeks or months) and find pain relief with non-surgical sciatica treatment.  Treatments for sciatica must include a good diet, exercise and the patient must aim at improving overall health.  Other treatment options include rest, painkillers, epidural injections and surgery.  Treatment of the underlying cause of the compression is often the most effective course.

Back Pain Exercise

While it may seem counter intuitive, exercise is usually better for healing sciatic pain than bed rest.  Exercises are often best means to achieve Sciatica Relief.  Exercise regularly to strengthen the muscles of your back and abdomen, which work to support your spine.  Exercises such as pilates are useful to correct poor muscle tone and posture and improve core strength and stability.  Swimming is particularly useful, as it is not a weight bearing exercise flexibility and strength can be improved without unduly stressing your back.  It is recommended that all patients consult a physician or physical therapist prior to beginning any exercise program.

Back Pain Causes And The Best Treatments

Back pain is a common condition that many people don’t take very seriously.  Back pain affects 80% of Americans at some time in their lives.  Back pain is a common condition and in the UK, it is the largest cause of work-related absence.  Back pain is one of the most common medical problems, affecting 8 out of 10 people at some point during their lives.  Back pain can be divided anatomically: neck pain, upper back pain, lower back pain or tail bone pain.  Learn why diagnosing back pain is so difficult and get tips on staying pain-free.

Back Pain

Pain is subjective and is impossible to test objectively.  Pain in your lower back is usually a symptom of stress or damage to your ligaments, muscles, tendons or discs.  Pain arising from other organs may be felt in the back.  Pain that hits you suddenly—after falling from a ladder, being tackled on the football field, or lifting a load that is too heavy, for example—is acute pain.  Pain when bending forward is usually, but not always, a sign of a disc trouble, as are short severe attacks of back pain alternating with longer bouts.  Pain that has persisted for more than three to six months would normally be chronic pain.  Sciatica: Symptoms and Pain Management Sciatica can cause pain in the lower back and the legs.  However, in severe and persistent cases of back pain, it is important to seek medical advice so that a correct diagnosis can be reached and appropriate treatment given.

Back Pain Treatment

You should always talk to your health care professional for diagnosis and treatment.  Treatment for back pain will usually depend on the underlying cause of the condition.  Treatment may vary, and the situation should be reviewed by a doctor if the pain becomes worse, or if the pain persists beyond 4-6 weeks, or if symptoms change.  Treatment involves using analgesics, reducing inflammation, restoring proper function and strength to the back, and preventing recurrence of the injury.  Treatment can include rest, exercise, medication and manipulation.  Treatment involves using over-the-counter pain relievers to reduce discomfort and anti-inflammatory drugs to reduce inflammation.  Not all treatments work for all conditions or for all individuals with the same condition, and many find that they need to try several treatment options to determine what works best for them.

Back Pain Relief

Many people find relief from symptoms of back pain with pain medication or pain killers.  Patients should always check with a doctor before taking drugs for pain relief.  Relief of pain is often reported when the involved muscle group is stretched.  The best position for relief when your back hurts is to lie on your back on the floor with pillows under your knees, with your hips and knees bent and your feet on a chair, or just with your hips and knees bent.  Ice packs and massages may also give relief.  For many, the goal is to keep the pain to a manageable level to progress with rehabilitation, which then can lead to long term pain relief.

Syatic Nerve For Exercises

Exercise is the most important way that you can help yourself.  Exercise may be the most effective way to speed recovery from low back pain and help strengthen back and abdominal muscles.  Exercise stretches and strengthen the muscles of abdomen and spine which prevents back problem.  Exercise is important for preventing future back pain.

Exercise may include stretching, mobility and strengthening exercises targeting the muscles stabilising and supporting the back.  Take your doctor’s advice before attempting any exercises, if you are already experiencing back pain.  However, one study found that exercise is effective for chronic back pain, but not for acute pain.  Remember, specific exercises keep your back supple and strong, and general exercises help you feel good about yourself and help release natural painkillers (endorphins).

Back pain can be very uncomfortable, but it is not usually serious.  Back pain is regularly cited by national governments as having a major impact on productivity, through loss of workers on sick leave.  Back pain has become the high price paid by our modern lifestyle and is a startlingly common cause of disability for many people, including both active and inactive people.  Exercises are helpful for decrease low back pain, recover faster, prevent re-injury to back, and reduce the risk of disability from back pain.

Welcome to my site Syatic Nerve.

Yes I know that syatic is spelt wrong and that it’s actually spelt sciatic.  This was the only domain name available for me to use.  So spelling errors out of the way, let’s push on.

I’ve already explained my story in the ‘About Me’ section so I’ll not repeat myself here.  But basically I’ve had to deal with a lot of back pain over the years.  Mainly sciatica, although as I am quite tall (6ft 5in) I’ve had other problems as well.

Therefore I know a fair bit as I’ve had to overcome it all myself and my aim is to help you with your back pain.  Be it sciatica, lower back pain, upper back pain and any other back pain not mentioned.
